For the love of England

I've been back from England a couple of weeks now and I'm still feeling pangs for it. The truth is, I really want to move back there. I've lived in Portugal for 25 years now and I feel ready for a new adventure. I've always held a secret love for the country of my birth and given the chance, I would have moved years ago. But when you have a husband with a successful business in Portugal, it's not really that easy!
Many of our close friends and family are helping me nudge him in the right direction... so we'll see what happens. Watch this space!
In the meantime, if you have a look at some of the photos we took, you'll soon realise why I'm so desperate to go back.... it's a writer's dream! It's the most inspiring country full of beautiful historical buildings and lush, green countryside. Yes I do understand that it has many downsides but then doesn't everywhere? Nowhere is absolutely perfect, is it?
Have a look and let me know what you think...

  1. Unfortunately beautiful old buildings are not the reality of living back here Suzy. Like you, I decided to move back home, in my case after forty-two years living in New Zealand.

That was back in 2000. Eleven years on I wish I had stayed in New Zealand. We all have rose tinted memories of our country of birth. I haven't worked since I came back here to England.

Visit by all means, but stay where you are. :)

  2. Thanks for your advice, Jack. Unfortunately, life in Portugal isn't all it's cracked up to be either. It's tough deciding what to do, where to go. Have you looked into returning to New Zealand? It seems so sad that you're staying where you're so unhappy?

  3. I cannot wait to go there one day. Your pictures are gorgeous! I think we all have a place that calls to us.

  4. Suzy, I have no choice financially these days.I have to stay put. Hey ho, at least I have my health, and most important of all, my writing.

  5. I'm sorry to hear that, Jack but like you say... you've got what is most important and that's your health and your writing! Maybe one of these days, you'll really hit the big time and you'll be able to go back to New Zealand!

Charissa... thanks for commenting, it is a beautiful country and I'd recommend a visit!

  6. The only other country I'd live in is Scotland. I currently live near the Scottish Borders on the England side but I could definitely settle in the Highlands.

I found you on Pauline's blog.
    CJ xx

  7. HI Crystal! It's great to hear from people that love living in the UK!
