I'm working on a movie!!

26.3.12

I'm currently working on something super exciting... something I've dreamed about doing since I was a kid... something awesome.... yep, I'm about to start working behind the scenes on an amazing movie. Yes, that's right... a movie!
The Right Juice is an independent, heartwarming movie set in the Algarve, where I have lived for the past 26 years. It's a wonderful story with some wonderful characters.  I finally met the cast and crew yesterday and I can honestly say that they are all totally awesome. Admittedly I was pretty nervous considering this is my first time working on a movie set (I have been an extra on a couple of commercials but that's hardly the same!) but I needn't have been. I was really made to feel like one of the team. Oh, I nearly forgot to tell you what I'll be doing... I've been taken on board as the Script Supervisor so I'm responsible for continuity and taking tonnes of notes about every single scene as well as various other stuff.
Needless to say, I'm going to be super busy over the next seven weeks so I will very have little time to post so please bear with me. Don't lose interest. I will be back! And if I do get the chance to post on my days off (when I'm not sleeping!), I certainly will!
I'd you'd like more information about The Right Juice, check out their website http://therightjuice.net
As this is an independent production, more finance is needed, so if you'd like to donate to this AWESOME project, check out the website and please give what you can (even five dollars/pounds/euros will make a difference!). You can also follow the movie on facebook, http://facebook.com/therightjuice

About Forbidden Fire

She escaped, but she'll never be free.

"Time held no meaning as my mind darted in and out of memories. Past and present collided to create a full-sensory collage out of my life: playing hide-n-seek with my best friends Luke—who always cheated by walking through walls when he was about to be caught—and Lucy; Mr. Caldrin critiquing my sketches and offering ideas to make them more realistic; targets changing faces, blending into the same person, their thoughts rippling through my mind like waves. Through it all, a demon stalked me from the shadows of my memories, never quite showing its face, but crouching, waiting.
And then I dreamed...."
Sam and Drake may have escaped, but they aren't free—not with a powerful Seeker after them. As Sam struggles with the ethics of her new powers and embraces a blossoming physical relationship with Drake, Lucy and Luke face challenges of their own.
With forces coalescing inside and outside the Rent-A-Kid dorms, it's only a matter of time before the fire they started forces each of them to make choices they can't undo. But will it be enough to save them?

YA Indie Carnival: Hunger Games

23.3.12

Hey and welcome to this week's Carnival! Today we're talking about HUNGER GAMES: DISTRICT INDIE -- characters from books that would be the ultimate competitors in the HUNGER GAMES and why.
There are two particular characters from The Raven Saga who would kick butt in the Hunger Games... and they just happen to be totally in love with each other: Tabitha and Zoltan. Tabitha is a changeling and Zoltan is a werewolf. Both are hard ass but adorable. They would so easily defend each other to the death (!).
Both of them are always on the look out for a fight (but not in a bad way, of course), they just want to rid the world of all the bad that's out there, if you know what I mean!

The Lost Soul is OUT NOW!!

22.3.12

I'm super excited to announce that the final book in The Raven Saga, The Lost Soul, is now AVAILABLE!!

December and Lilly have got their work cut out for them. Not only are they desperately trying to figure out the identity of the Lost Soul, and track him down, they've also got to investigate why Powell River's newest resident has got all of their men falling at her feet.
But when they learn that the Nephilim might be involved, it becomes clear that they're all in extreme danger...

EXCERPT
The stench of something rotten filled the air as the man tried to lift his heavy head. Opening his eyes, it took a moment for them to adjust to the strange dull light of a new day. Wincing, he managed to hold his head up just long enough to notice the smell belonged to a rotting corpse to his side. He heaved, but there was nothing left in his stomach. He hadn't eaten in days.
Weak, cold and hungry, he curled into a ball on the mossy ground and sobbed.
When he no longer had the strength to even do that, he stared up at the sky; the orange and yellow hues entwined in a rainbow effect as far as his eyes could see.
The only sounds that could be heard were his rough breathing combined with the gentle whooshing of the silver trees that surrounded the deep ditch within which he found himself.
A hummingbird appeared from nowhere, hovering above him, flying up and down and around his face. The man tried to focus his eyes upon it but his vision had become blurry.
When the bird came to an abrupt halt almost touching his nose, he realised it wasn't a bird at all.
A faint giggle erupted from the creature, making him jump.
"No, this can't be," he whispered, hoarsely.
The little creature with large blue wings nodded back, "Yes, it can," she responded, "I can see you are in dire need of help. I will gather my friends and we will return to get you out of here. You will be safe. Do not worry."
Disappearing out of sight in a flash, the man collapsed once more before he fell into a deep sleep.

Two Worlds • Two Teens • One Wish
Rhoe and Ashley would never be friends.

Even if they lived on the same planet.

But, they’ll become so much more.

They’ll transfer.

Earthling Ashley’s world revolves around winning daily popularity contests at Beverly Hills High School and surfing competitions with sweet scholarship prizes that will finally help her break free of her control-freak mother. Ashley never loses. Ashley never wishes on stars. But that changes when her senior class takes a field trip to the Griffith Observatory where conflicting feelings about her predatory best frenemy Tiffany causes Ashley to throw away her own carefully-crafted Queen of B.H.H.S. title under the bus.
Meanwhile on planet Retha, Rhoe misses his dad, loves his mom’s home-cooked Glechy crag with a side of ory sauce, is desperate to heal his sick brother and wants more than anything to win The Retha New Invention Competition. He and his best friend Yuke have worked for the past two years constructing the teleporting telescope Rhoe started building with his dad before he died in an airboarding accident. Rhoe’s never kissed a girl. Rhoe’s hero is the eccentric physicist, Ramay. But that changes when the telescope teleports Rhoe across the universe with an unintended side effect, Ashley and Rhoe transfer. They swap lives when they make the same wish at the same time.
Popular-surfer-turned-boy-geek alien Ashley must handle life on Retha as Rhoe complete with webbed feet, low-gravity, and an obsession with Yuke, all the while being hunted by Rethan spies and resenting her hairy, flat chest. Boy-geek-turned-popular-surfer Rhoe must fit in at Beverly Hills High School as Ashley, compete in The Laguna Beach Invitational without becoming shark food, dodge boys’ affections, cool his preoccupation with Tiffany and his new body, on his quest to find the healing rocks he believes will save his brother’s life.
If only it were that simple. Some wishes can’t come true. Some have to.

EXCERPT:
Yuke catches up to me. We walk side-by-side in silence through the Golden Meadow. The airboard launch, a sort of gigantic upside-down slide, peeks over a row of Truffula Trees.
“Listen, there are three things you have to remember about soaring. You’ll never soar if your mind is on the ground. Put it up on The Ridge,” Yuke says, pointing to a purple-blue mountain ahead of us. “Rhoe taught me that.”
The way he says Rhoe I know it’s happened. He knows. He really knows I’m not Rhoe, I’m…Ashley. It’s sunk in. Finally. I stop walking and can hardly breathe. It’s the first time he’s ever seen the real me, and his gaze warms me down to my frog feet. Yuke spots the question in my eyes.
“The Ridge of No Return,” he says with a small smile, “It’s the prime place to catch air. But beware The Devil’s Grip. Soar too high and you’ll be caught in The Grip and lost to The Other Side. Forever.”
He misreads the question in my eyes. Again. I shiver thinking about The Grip and dying in the mythic ice and snow of The Other Side. I stare at my hideous frog feet, my peds. I don’t care about The Ridge. There’s only one person I care about. One boy I’ll never have. Yuke.
“What else?” I ask, peering deeper into Yuke’s alien eyes.
“You’ve got to feel the beat of the wind in your peds. Surrender to the air. And know, deep in your hearts, no one is its master.”
I hear and don’t hear every word Yuke says. For the first time in my life I can’t speak. I can’t take my eyes off Yuke, now that he knows I’m not Rhoe. He wouldn’t be telling his best friend, an Astral, how to airboard unless he knows I’m Ashley, someone who doesn’t know much about soaring.
“Your catchers will always stop you if you fall,” Yuke says, filling the silence between us. He raises his arms above his head. Delicate wings expand out from under his arms. Thin pinkish-purple skin stretches over delicate, long bones. No feathers at all. Just smooth, glimmering skin. And it’s crazy. A week ago I wouldn’t even look twice at a guy with a big nose, but now, I’m hot for an alien. With wings.
I have to touch him. It’s beyond wanting to. The way Yuke spreads his wings makes his pecs flare and his biceps seize. He’s beyond gorgeous. The way his sheer wings take to the breeze makes Yuke more unreal than he already is to me. He’s everything I never wanted and everything I can’t live without. It feels like we’re the only souls in the universe. The look in his golden exotic eyes melts my ability to stay away from him.
“You can’t be real,” I say taking a few steps closer to him, holding my hand out to touch his wing. Waiting for him to let me. To know it’s OK. He flexes and lets his head fall back a little inviting my touch. I lay my alien fingers on his smooth taught skin, and run them over his wing’s thin hollow bones. My eyes fill with tears. His wings flutter in a breeze. He’s beautiful.
Yuke sticks his chest out and when he drops his arms his catchers vanish back into his biceps. “I can’t let you soar. Not now,” he says, the crowd cheers just beyond the trees.
Only then do I remember where we are. What we’re here to do. A band begins to play a set of songs. The crowd beyond the row of trees cheers again and again.
“I have to. I’m doing this for Rhoe,” I say.
Yuke puts his hand on my shoulder. I shudder.
 “And for me,” I say.
Yuke’s golden eyes focus only on mine, on the Earthling inside of this alien body.
“And for you,” I say, feeling the beat of my hearts in my throat. “We’re going to win this damn thing.”

10 inspirational movies to get you off the couch

21.3.12

Yesterday I was offered the chance to publish a fantastic post (courtesy of Best Online Colleges) about movies that do, literally, get you off the couch! Read on and enjoy...

Movies have been, and continue to be, the most powerfully transformative art form in our century. Often, we recommend a particular movie to a friend or family member because we believe they will find it inspirational, telling them, "This movie will change your life." Some movies can make you feel as if you've been tricked, after blowing your hard-earned cash on a ticket, into viewing scene after scene of CGI-created destruction with intermittent pauses for inane dialogue. After such a movie, you feel cheated, and ready for a nap. Thankfully, there are other movies, movies made with more integrity, that can inspire you to get your butt off the proverbial couch and do something you didn't previously think you were capable of doing. Here are 10 such movies.

Julie & Julia
In this 2009 drama, Amy Adams and recent Oscar winner Meryl Streep play Julie and Julia, respectively, two women from different generations who find themselves at a crossroads, wondering how to take control of and enjoy their lives. Adams' Julie works in a cubicle at a call center in lower Manhattan answering questions about insurance claims from those affected by September 11 attacks. At the same time, we see Julia Child living with her devoted husband Paul in 1950s Paris, and, after some unsuccessful attempts at playing bridge and making hats for intellectual stimulation, enrolling in Le Cordon Bleu cooking school to learn the art of French cooking. Julie, who loves to cook, is inspired to create a blog to document her attempt to cook every single recipe contained in Julia Child's masterpiece Mastering the Art of French Cooking. Though they never meet in person, their stories are similar and similarly inspiring.

Breaking Away
"He's never tired! He's never miserable! When I was his age, I was tired and miserable!" So says used car salesman Ray (Paul Dooley) of his son Dave (Dennis Christopher), who at the age of 19 has yet to apply to college, preferring instead to obsess over competitive bicycle racing, and all things Italian. Dave and three of his buddies, all from working class families, live in a sort of post-adolescent limbo in their hometown of Bloomington, Ind., until each is forced to make a clear decision regarding their future. It's a completely believable movie about working class life, a subject that Hollywood today seems completely unable or unwilling to address.

Still Bill
This 2009 documentary traces the career of singer-songwriter Bill Withers, who composed and recorded such timeless classics as "Lean On Me" and "Ain't No Sunshine When She's Gone." In 1985, Withers more or less walked away from the music industry, grateful for the degree of success he had achieved, and content to enjoy life with his family, away from the spotlight. In one scene, at a special event, Withers meets a group of children who, like he did as a child, stutter. Withers dropped out of ninth grade in part because of his stuttering, and eventually received speech therapy while he was in the Navy. The children sing Withers a song, and he's moved to tears, reminded of how far he has come. It's one of many powerful yet understated moments in movies that tells the story of a great American songwriter who happens to be still Bill.

The Karate Kid
We have no actual data to back this up, but we believe the 1984 film The Karate Kid inspired untold numbers of grade school and adolescent aged boys and girls to seriously begin studying a martial art. Ralph Macchio plays Daniel who has relocated from New Jersey to the lion's den that is California's San Fernando Valley. There, in spite of his best effort to fight back, he is bullied and beaten up by a blond psycho named Johnny, the disciple of a martial arts instructor channeling post-Vietnam stress disorder into training his own personal army of teenaged samurai. Daniel is rescued from a brutal attack by Johnny and his buddies by handyman Mr. Miyagi (Noriyuki "Pat" Morita) who happens to be a martial arts master. Mr. Miyagi spends time training Daniel to fight Johnny and his crew at a martial arts competition, teaching him that humility and martial arts must go hand in hand. This is a surprisingly moving film as Daniel, the child of a single mom, puts all of his energy into becoming a good man.

Harold and Maude
Funerals, multiple staged suicides, and acts of civil disobedience are all found in abundance in the 1971 cult classic, Harold and Maude. Harold (Bud Cort) is a friendless, emotionally stunted young man who, in his free time, attends funerals. At one funeral, he meets Maude (Ruth Gordon), who goes to funerals for reasons that are very different than Harold's. Maude insists they become friends, and slowly Harold is pulled out of his shell by Maude who inspires him to live life instead of pretending he is dead. The movie's soundtrack is a collection of songs by Cat Stevens, including "If You Want To Sing Out Sing Out," memorably performed by a joyous Maude and a mumbling Harold.

The Matrix
Violent, but not ultraviolent, and absolutely capturing the collective zeitgeist of 1999, The Matrix is an inspiring work on many levels. The most superficial being, perhaps, Trinity's arm muscles, and the overall physical health of the rebellious heroes in the movie who have trained to kick the asses of the clones of the evil Mr. Smith. Beyond gifted gym and dojo memberships, the philosophies alluded to throughout the film have arguably helped to inspire or at least create some of the vernacular for this past years' "Occupy" movements. Both liberals and conservatives, Democrats and Republicans, have appropriated the film's famous blue pill or red pill quote to support their own political agendas.

It's a Wonderful Life
If you have not seen this 1946 classic, DO NOT WATCH THE TRAILER WE'VE KINDLY EMBEDDED BELOW (NB. find this in the link at the top and bottom of this article)! However, if you have seen this movie, chances are you've watched it more than once, most likely every year at Christmas time. Jimmy Stewart plays George Bailey, who is granted the opportunity, thanks to his guardian angel in training, Clarence, to see what would have happened to his friends and family if he had never been born. This comes after a series of setbacks, all having to do with the lack of money, that threaten the well-being of Bailey's wife and children, and compel him to try and commit suicide, so they can collect on his life insurance policy. Anyone who can imagine themselves in Bailey's position will take something away from this movie.

My Left Foot
The award winning 1989 movie My Left Foot is inspired by the life of author, poet, and painter Christy Brown, who was born with cerebral palsy, grew up in working class Dublin, and could only control muscle movement in his left foot. Brown's mother ignored doctors who told her Christy was a "mental defective," and instead taught her son how to read and write. He would grow up to write an autobiography and paint. In spite of revelations that Brown toward the end of his life suffered physical abuse by a neglectful wife, the movie and his story are incredible testaments to one person's ability to overcome overwhelming physical challenges.

American Splendor
Comic book writer Harvey Pekar revolutionized his chosen medium by writing stories that elevated the most mundane events of everyday life, including buying bread, riding a city bus, and arguing with your spouse, into literate, poetic, even heroic tales for the everyman. As Pekar himself says early on in this movie's narration, "If you're the kind of person looking for some fantasy figure to save the day, you got the wrong movie!"American Splendor features not only Paul Giamatti as Harvey Pekar, but Pekar himself, along with some of his real-life co-workers, giving the movie a thoroughly post-modern feel. Pekar's journey includes a bout with cancer, an ordeal his and his wife Joyce documented in an award-winning graphic novel, Our Cancer Year.

The Pursuit of Happyness
Like a lot of the films we've listed, The Pursuit of Happyness is based on a true story, in this case, the story of Chris Gardner, played by Will Smith, who went from being homeless, to forming his own multi-million dollar brokerage firm. While Gardner was homeless, he interned as a stockbroker, competing against 18 other interns for one paid position. Smith's real-life son Jaden plays Gardner's son Christopher, who was in his care while he was homeless, and slept alongside his dad in homeless shelters and public restrooms.

Rippler by Cidney Swanson: YA at its best!

19.3.12

Let's start with the blurb:
Invisible. In love. In peril.
Samantha Ruiz has a freak gene that makes her turn invisible, or ripple. She can't control it, and it's getting worse. Afraid of becoming a lab-rat, Sam keeps her ability secret, until fellow runner Will Baker sees her vanish into thin air. Will promises secrecy and help, and Sam begins to fall in love. Together, the two discover there are worse things than being a scientific curiosity. Someone's been killing people who possess Sam's gene. A mysterious man from France sends letters that offer hope for safety, but also reveal a sinister connection with Nazi experiments. The more time Sam spends with Will, the less she can imagine life without him. When Sam uncovers secrets from her past, she must choose between keeping Will in her life or keeping Will safe.

I fell in love with this book pretty much as soon as I began reading. It was immediately evident that Cidney is headed for success... her writing is just beautiful and the way she tells a story from a 15 year old's point of view is simply spot on. There were times when I laughed out loud and other times when I sneakily wiped a tear from my cheek. Seriously... that's how Rippler made me feel. When a book enables you to experience intense emotion like that, you know it's good.
The build-up of tension was exactly right... slowly building and building, just revealing enough truths before it came to an end, in a perfect kind of climax, I guess, making the reader desperate to read the next one!
I plan to pick up a copy of book two soon... unfortunately, I'm about to start working on something really exciting and so won't have time to read a thing for a couple of months! So I guess I'll just have to wait to see what happens next!

YA Indie Carnival: Luck o' the Irish

16.3.12

Luck. Some say that you either have it or you don't. Perhaps you 'make' your own luck? I don't know really. I guess I've always considered myself to be lucky in a different sense. Lucky to have been born to such a loving family. Lucky to have met the wonderful man (who I would eventually marry) when I was just 16. Lucky to be able to do what I love (write). Lucky to be surrounded by such wonderful friends. Lucky to have choices. Lucky to be living in a part of the world where I can choose. Perhaps luck isn't the best word, in retrospect.
On the other hand, my family got lucky many years ago when my Dad won the lottery. It wasn't a truly massive amount... just enough for him to change the course of our lives, I guess. It enabled us to move into a large comfortable family home in England and take lots of wonderful holidays before we eventually moved to the sunny Algarve where I've been ever since.
Have you been lucky in your life? I'd love to hear your stories!
Happy St. Patrick's Day!!

REVIEW: Forget the past by Claude Nougat

14.3.12

****
I figured I would enjoy this book because of its unique description:
"When Tony, a gifted child and brilliant video game creator, turns 17, he suffers burnout and feels like an old man. He goes to Sicily, the homeland of his deceased father, to search for his roots. An abandoned palazzo with a strange name inscribed above the door, the Circolo di Conversazione, attracts his attention. He walks in and meets the ghosts of all his ancestors going back 900 years, milling about, waiting for Judgment Day."
I was hooked the moment I began reading. Unlike anything I have ever read, Forget the Past manages to delve a little into the history of many a character while creating very human tales of tragedy and love. Although Tony is the lead character in the novel, the in-depth stories are more about his ancestors than about himself, a 17 year old boy who is trying to find out who HE really is.
The stories (there were many intertwined within the book) were easily to visualise in my mind's eye and I would love to see this book made into a movie... it would certainly make a terrific one!
This is only the first in a trilogy about young Tony Bellomo. I would highly recommend this book to just about anyone. Whether you're a young adult or an old timer, Forget the Past is well worth the read!
My review of the sequel, Reclaim the Present, is coming soon!

REVIEW: Fairy Circle by Johanna Frappier

12.3.12

*****
I ADORED this book, everything about it just blew me away. There is so much emotion behind the main character, Saffron, that I was whisked away to her world the second I began reading. Not only did I feel her pain, but my heart literally ached for the girl and the unusual situation she had found herself trapped within.
Unlike many books in this genre, I had absolutely no idea which way the story was taking me. It was completely unpredictable, leaving me sitting on the edge of my seat throughout, with my fingers tensed with worry for Saffron.
Johanna Frappier is a fantastic story teller, weaving intricate tales within the story itself, culminating in a nail biting finale... which left me desperate for book number two... which I've now read. My review follows soon!
I can't wait to read more from this author, and I would highly recommend the Fairy Circle series to EVERYONE!

A new healthy living blog

11.3.12

As someone who is very interested in healthy living, I have created an alternative blog which I am dedicating to everything connected to health, wellness and general lifestyle. The blog also includes recipes for people who (like me) are gluten and lactose intolerant.

I didn't want to clutter my writing sites with it all, so if you fancy, come on over and take a peek... follow me if you like! Either click on the image, or click the link below.

What a day for a bike ride...

11.3.12

Went out on hubby's bike this afternoon....... well, I wasn't actually driving ;)

I hadn't been out on the bike with him in over a year... not since he bought this BMW motorbike and it was actually a pleasant surprise (the Ducati was a nightmare... so uncomfortable that it hurt). Not only was I comfortable but we had a lovely drive... the weather was perfect. All in all, a perfect drive. Looking forward to doing it again!

YA Indie Carnival: Four Seasons

9.3.12

Spring, Summer, Autumn, Winter... the four seasons. Four awesome seasons for so many different reasons. I love winter, probably because that's when I was born. But by the end of winter, I find I'm really looking forward to spring with its beautiful birds singing in the morning, the warm sun shining almost every day and that lovely spring morning scent that fills the air when you first step outdoors.
Winter is my favourite season. Photo taken in Canada!
But, by the end of spring, I find myself looking forward to the summer, when it's warm enough to don my favourite hot weather clothes! Needless to say though, living in the Algarve where the temperatures often get too much to bear, I'm ALWAYS wishing for the season to end, looking forward to the cool crisp mornings of the autumn, where the boots come out from the bottom of the wardrobe and jackets appear that have been hidden away for months. I love it when you first start to see your breath outdoors. Oh how I love the autumn... knowing that winter is just around the corner!
But which season do I tend to write? Well, that's easy. All of them! I like to write all throughout the year but I probably read more when the weather starts to warm up. I love the thought of taking my Kindle outside wearing nothing but a bikini (bearing in mind this is in the privacy of my own garden!) and laying down to read for a few hours while the sun gives me a golden glow. And that weather is almost upon us... actually, it's been quite hot the past few days so my bikini just might get an airing even sooner!
But what about you? When do you like to write, read and review books?

REVIEW: Paradox by Patti Roberts

8.3.12

*****
This is so totally different from anything I've read recently and I have to say... WOW. Patti Roberts is a truly remarkable writer. The way she weaves her tales among the story is extraordinary. I can honestly say I was in awe of the way she managed to do it. I'd love to have that talent. The story was so unusual... in fact it was a story within a story, or should I say a story within a story, within a story... I could go on because there are several different tales going on in the book at different times in history. And it's not confusing, Patti Roberts has managed to intertwine these aspects beautifully.
I also love the fact that Lisbon has been incorporated (I live in Portugal, but I won't say anything more!) My only criticism is that I NEED to know what happens next!! I can't wait for book two!

YA Indie Carnival: Block Busters

2.3.12

What do you do when you're, ah...BLOCKED! When you've written your characters into a corner, or maybe a black hole, and they can't get out? What do you do when you stare at that blinking cursor in the middle of the night? How do you bust your blocks?

I find the only thing I can is to get away from the computer, away from the story and do something completely different. Perhaps read a couple of books by other awesome writers or listen to some music. As we talked about last week, there's nothing better than a great piece of music to get the imagination running again. Or a movie? Anything that will make me think about something else always seems to help. Because I'm not thinking about it too much, I find that light bulb moment happens much easier!
So what about you? What do you do to loosen up the cogs of your imagination?

REVIEW: Outside by Shalini Boland

1.3.12

*****
Over a year ago I had the privilege of reading what has now become one of my all-time favourite YA vampire books. The book was called Hidden and it was written by fellow indie author, Shalini Boland.
Since then, I have been eagerly awaiting her to release more. Imagine my delight, therefore, when I noticed she'd released a book entitled Outside. Initially I thought it was the long awaited sequel to Hidden. I was completely wrong about that, of course, but it didn't matter. I soon discovered that Outside was not about vampires or the supernatural, but about a dystopian society in south western England. I was hooked. Ever since childhood when I read a book called Z for Zachariah, I've loved dystopian novels, post apocalyptic novels, anything set in a world gone wrong.
Outside is exactly the kind of story I love, about a young couple who embark on a journey through potential terrifying locations to try and avenge something horrifying that happens in the beginning of the book. I'm not saying any more because I'd hate to give anything away. What I will say, though, is that Outside is simply brilliant. Shalini's writing just flows beautifully and I can't wait to read more from her. I wonder if Outside is the first in a series too? I hope so... I can certainly see the potential for many more!
But I guess I'll just have to wait and see. I need to be patient!
All in all, a fabulous read.
