I started writing seriously in 2010. It was after I was made redundant from my job as a magazine editor. Although I loved that job and the people I worked with, I hated the politics involved. Needless to say, that day felt like my world had come crumbling down until I started to see it for what it really was: FREEDOM.
It was the biggest kick up the backside that I could have imagined. It made me sit back and think about what I really wanted to do and that was the freedom to write whatever I wanted to write. I haven't looked back since. And I'm now the author of six full length novels and one novella. My seventh book should be out in a few months time!
But all of this couldn't have happened without the support of my fellow authors, book bloggers and of course the most amazing readers in the world :) It's that support that I'm talking about today. When I received my first negative review, I was almost prepared to give it all up... until my fellow author pals put it into perspective for me. 'It was just one bad review, get over it, move on. The positive reviews will far outdo the negative ones', and they were right! But if it wasn't for the support of other authors, I wouldn't be here doing this today and I'm so incredibly thankful to them for that.
Support is something that every author needs. And so whenever I find a group that offers all the support I could possibly wish for, I jump at the chance of being a part of it. I'm a member of a few such organisations but The Rave Reviews Book Club really does pull out all the stops to give us what we really need to help get ourselves out there. I love these guys and I'd really encourage you to join them and see for yourself how awesome they really are. So what are you waiting for? Go join up now!
But before you do, pop over to a few other recruitment day blog posts and vote for your favourite. I hope it's mine :)
