Excerpt from book:
Chapter 1
We marched forward out of the protective tree line of the forest and into the open field; a wall of bodies, hands clasped moving with purpose toward the Troian Center. Even though we had the protection of Remi’s invisibility power, I still felt tense and exposed. My heart pounded with uncertainty as a cool wind rushed past and we picked up speed. I could barely feel the strange sensation of lightness that being invisible provided. My skin tingled, but it felt more like nerves than magic. The last time I’d been invisible the sensation had felt much more intense, which had me worried that maybe it wasn’t working right. The possibility that Remi wasn’t strong enough to stretch his power over all of us made me shutter with uneasiness. This was more people than he’d ever tried to share his power with before .

When fifteen-year-old nerd and gamer Max Anderson thinks he’s sneaking a preview of an unpublished video game, he doesn’t realize that 1) He’s been chosen as a beta, an experimental test player. 2) He’s playing the ultimate history game, transporting him into the actual past: anywhere and anytime. And 3) Survival is optional: to return home he must decipher the game’s rules and complete its missions—if he lives long enough. To fail means to stay in the past—forever. Now Max is trapped in medieval Germany, unprepared and clueless. It is 1471 and he quickly learns that being an outcast may cost him his head. Especially after rescuing a beautiful peasant girl from a deadly infection and thus provoking sinister wannabe Duke Ott. Overnight he is dragged into a hornets’ nest of feuding lords who will stop at nothing to bring down the conjuring stranger in their midst.

I asked Annette... Where is Escape from the Past set and why did you choose to set it there?

The story sort of created itself when I stumbled across medieval Castle Hanstein in Thuringia, Germany in 2012. These ruins are some of the best preserved in the country with an awesome view of the land. I knew immediately that I had to write something about this castle.
But then I found the jackpot. A display told of Knight Werner von Hanstein, a larger than life character who’d feuded with Duke Schwarzburg over a beautiful woman in the late 15th century. This bit of information led me to a historical accounting of the Hanstein family with a few pages dedicated to Knight Werner. To say the least I was hooked.
The original Castle Hanstein was built with wood, but over several decades redone in stone. The outer walls, the portcullis, one tower still stand. The drawing, also used for the book’s cover, was done around 1450 and shows the castle in all its glory. The other images show the ruins you’ll see today.
A bonus to the location is the Klausenhof Inn built in 1487 at the base of the mountain. Though it wasn’t in existence, my story takes place in 1471, the building gives great insight into what knights, peasants and merchants would have seen back then. The second floor contains a knight’s hall and fancy private dining rooms for the lords and ladies. The main floor is divided into a restaurant and bar. Peasants would have found nourishment in the basement.

A King Rises

Realms Fall
Eve Collins has set in motion a chain of events that could destroy everything she’s ever loved. Surrounded by dangerous creatures, dark worlds, and the struggle to become who she was meant to be, Eve must complete her ascension and accept her destiny.
War has begun. Losing is not an option. With dangers lurking around each corner, and everything against her, will Eve sacrifice her own happiness in order to tip the scale of balance? Which side will rise to power, and which fall to fate?
In this fourth installment in The Revelation Series, Eve must risk it all in order to prevent a centuries old war.
Everything comes with a sacrifice, even love.
Releasing: May 2015

Can you tell us a little about your latest book?
Revolution, (The Revelation Series, Book #4) is the fourth installment within The Revelation Series. It’s a continuation of Eve Collin’s journey of self-discovery, divine secrets, forbidden love and ultimate sacrifice.

What inspired you to write it?
The idea for Revelation (The Revelation Series, Book 1), and the entire series, stemmed from my combined love of John Milton’s Paradise Lost and my affinity for architecture. Paranormal romance is my favorite genre to read, and nothing beats an epic love story in my book. Basically, I combined all those elements to created the series.

How did you come up with the idea for the cover?

The cover for Revolution, as with all my covers within this series, is a visual capture of a poignant moment within the written storyline.

If it was made into a movie, who would you like to play the main characters?
Eve Collins would be played by Odette Annable. She was actually my muse for Eve and I think she would bring a lot to the character. As for Asher St. Michael, I would love to see a scruffy Dean Geyer take on Asher’s role. Hands down, Alex Pettyfer would be my dream Gage Gallagher (he too was my muse for the character in the book).

Is it part of a series or is it a stand-alone novel?
Revolution is the fourth installment within The Revelation Series. It’s a new adult, paranormal serial romance. Each book is a continuation and I often recommend reading them in order.

Where is the novel set and why did you choose to set it there?
Revolution, and the entire series, is set between England, France and Massachusetts, US. Each has a special place in my heart and all are important to the authenticity of the paranormal aspect of the storyline.

What is it about this genre that appeals to you so much?
Paranormal/Fantasy Romance is my favorite genre mainly because of the world building. There is nothing better than getting lost in a forbidden romance story that takes you on a journey through playful fantasy worlds. It’s like dark chocolate and dark roasted coffee. They just are perfect for one another. As an another, this category allows me to explore my imagination and make the unreal, real and possible. What’s better than that?

What made you want to become an author?
I’m not sure one event made me want to become an author. To be honest, I’m not sure any writer wants to be an author. I think we all just have stories to tell and share, so we do.

How do you come up with character names?
Character names are tricky. A lot of the time, I won’t name characters until I’m finished with their bio/background. Then, I research and fit names that I feel will fit their personalities and are authentic to the storyline or what makes up their character traits.

Name one of your all-time favourite books?
The Secret Garden by Frances Hodgson Burrnett. It was the first book I’d read that inspired me to believe in magic and emotional bonds, even as a child.

Who, or what, inspires you?
(Laughs) This is another tough question. Everything and everyone inspires me. I take my lead from people and the world around me. I love to people watch, their actions, their decisions. What they do unconsciously when they think no one is around. I think that’s part of the allure of reading, we’re allowed to look into someone else’s life for a while.

Where is your favourite place to write?
In a quiet, warm, sun-filled room. Even the darkest chapters and storyline, I prefer to write in the light.

What is your favourite movie that was based on a book?
The Devil Wears Prada by Lauren Weisberger.

Name two of your favourite authors.
At the moment, Jeaniene Frost and Kylie Scott.

Tell us a random fact about yourself.
My favorite color is yellow.

Who would play you in the movie about your life?
Ewe. Um. LOL. I’m not sure who would want to. Let’s say Jennifer Aniston because she’s adorable and has great hair. Two things, I am not - lol.

Tell us an interesting fact about where you live.
There is a house in Rockport, Massachusetts built entirely of newspapers. It’s cleverly called The Paper House. I swear, Google it.

What are your (writing) plans for the future?
The final book within The Revelation Series, Restoration, is releasing in August of 2015. I have two new adult, contemporary romances slated for 2015/2016. My project list also includes some potential spin off stories from The Revelation Series.

Tell us one thing that's on your bucket list.
Appreciate one thing about my daughter, every day.

Favourite myth / fairytale?
My favorite fairytale is Disney’s Sleeping Beauty. I was so in love with Prince Phillip for slaying the dragon. Interesting….dragons and hot princes at such a young age?

Who/What did you want to be when you were a kid?
Honestly, it changed depending on which book, or which movie I was watching. Looking back, I think like most children, I just wanted to get lost in my imagination and the stories I was read or watching. Superwoman was pretty high up there for a while.

Thanks so much for having me today, it’s been a lot of fun!

Ideal High by Valerie Ipson

Published: February 24th, 2015

There’s no way Taryn’s taking Blake’s place as president of the student body. As soon as the memorial for him and six of their friends is over, she’s resigning as VP. Really. Except people say the fire was no accident. (She say it’s way too easy to blame someone who’s dead.) When Taryn reads the writing on the wall, literally, the bathroom wall, she knows what it means. To get to the truth she has to come out from under her paisley comforter. But, seriously, what stage of grief says Taryn has to be the one to fix what’s wrong at Ideal High? Maybe she’s the one who’s broken.

Excerpt
Whose idea is it to broadcast the super-size faces of those who died to the far reaches of the school’s auditorium? Everybody knows they’re gone. Why emphasize the obvious even for the sake of a memorial? And why no rain on this joyless day? Never a good Texas thunderstorm when you need one.
I force a glance at the pull-down screen behind me, but immediately turn to focus on the line where the ceiling meets the wall at the back of the room. I can’t bear to look into the crowd, but I can’t look at the screen either. A giant reminder that I will never see those faces again. Weeks of grief have left me numb, but I should have worn my hair down to give me something to hide behind. Just in case.
Light pours in through the ribbon of windows high along the back wall. It crisscrosses the podium, making me squint at the sheet of paper in front of me.
It doesn’t matter. I know the list by heart.
I blink through the glare and lean in to the microphone, not sure how loud I need to be. “Ashley Bannister.”
My voice echoes across the vast room. Plenty loud.
All eyes rivet on the screen and a kid from Drama Club tugs the rope of the school bell slowly and deliberately for maximum effect. It must have taken practice to get a perfect mournful clang.
The audience’s collective gaze swings to my right. To Chelsea standing at a matching podium, staring at her own list. She’s leaning heavy on her crutches, and on the podium, too. She needs both to keep her vertical, apparently. I’m just glad I don’t have to share the same half of the stage with her. As always, I need my distance. That hasn’t changed.
“Weston James Brown.” Chelsea’s lips tighten into a thin line. I’m amazed she gets the name out. The bell sounds again, even more slowly than the first time, and a chorus of sniffles and muffled sobs grows slightly louder.
I measure my breathing and tap my fingers along the edge of the sheet of paper in front of me. I have to keep my hands busy, distracted. Maybe if I keep moving I won’t think too hard about the next name.
I switch to rubbing my palms up and down the sides of my pants. I just can’t look at Kayla’s parents who sit with my mom and dad in the front row. I pause too long and the principal clears his throat behind me. Very cliché, Mr. Myers. Doesn’t he get that this is beyond difficult?
“Kayla … Marie … Carter.” I speak her name to the back wall then take up tapping on the podium again. But not so loud anyone can hear. So much for avoiding the faces on the screen. All that loops through my brain is Kayla’s wide smile.
Quit worrying, Taryn. Blake’s not getting back with Chelsea, Kayla had said that night after the party. I’ll go find him for you and you’ll see I’m right. Then she walked right back into the old Gin Co. building.
Why was I forced to do this? I’m not the one who should be speaking the names of the dead in front of all these people. The list reads like the school’s Who’s Who, and I have no business pretending I’m one of them.
Except for him. How many more names until his? I’d scanned both versions as soon as they were held out to us, snatching the one with his name among those highlighted. Chelsea has no right to it, to him. Not like I do. At least that’s what I tell myself.
The light flickers from behind me, so I know they’ve moved on to the next abnormous face. A face that should be in the yearbook, not on a screen at a memorial.
A moan rises from the second row, competing with the plaintive tones of the bell. Plaintive? Where’d that come from? Now I’m conjuring up junior year Vocab?
One of Chelsea’s crutches bangs against her podium. I can’t help shooting her a sideways glance. She’s still hunched forward. Definitely struggling and the service is just getting started.
Thankfully, I don’t have to maneuver crutches and the names in front of me. Still, I will it to be over. My knotted stomach begs for it, and the fetal-position imprint on my bed is only growing colder. Who knows how long Principal Myers will feel obligated to address the assembled after our part is done?

Tilly is a witch…at least, she thinks she is. All she really knows is that she has powers she shouldn’t, and that the cruel women she escaped from – who definitely are witches – will stop at nothing to make her their prisoner again because of those powers.
But Tilly has fallen in with a strange group – a pack of werewolves. The pack wants to protect her; none of them more so than Dominic, the alpha’s kind-hearted son. Tilly thinks she might be falling for him, but she can’t help being fascinated by his brooding, mysterious half-brother Spencer.
Caught between the two, Tilly isn’t sure anymore what she’s most scared of: the witches hunting her down, or her own heart betraying her.

Shift by Karina Espinosa

And not even her sarcastic, smart mouth can get her out of this.
When a string of kidnappings involves Mackenzie in supernatural politics, she questions her new acquaintances and finds unlikely allies. Can she escape Pack law and keep her freedom—or will she be condemned to an unwanted path?

Favorite Reads of 2014
By Author Randi Cooley Wilson

Thanks so much Suzy for having me as a guest on the blog tour today. This was a difficult one, because it’s so hard to choose only ten of my favorite reads of 2014. That said, here they are in no particular order.

Play By Kylie Scott
Sinfully sexy Mal. I mean, who doesn’t love Mal. Anne and Mal’s story is funny, sexy and super sweet. You can’t help but fall in love right along with them. I almost peed my pants several times reading this book and when it was over, I missed Mal, and pumpkin. Killer too.

Once Burned by Jeaniene Frost
There is nothing I love more than a good paranormal story with a hot vampire. Enter Vlad, the original Dracula, add a strong female lead, Leila and this series becomes literary crack for me. I’ve already pre-ordered book three and it am all...hurry up and release.

Step Brother by Penelope Ward
Penelope Ward has written an incredible story about falling in love. There was so much depth, humor and hotness. I loved this love story, even if unconventional.

Reaper’s Stand by Joanna Wylde
What can I say, this series is a sexy addiction without doubt. Picnic’s story made my heart happy. I just adore this biker series and this book did not disappoint.

Black Lies by Alessandra Torre
It takes a lot to blow my mind and ‘plot fool’ me when reading. I normally can pick up the twists and turns of where a story is going to take me. NOT HERE! Alessandra is simply brilliant and this book is a whirlwind of romance, recklessness and What The What moments. When I finished, my mouth was literally hanging open in shock and love.

Elicit by Rachel Van Dyken
I’m a huge Rachel Van Dyken fan. Eagle Elect is probably one of my favorite series. This book though, IS OUTSTANDING! There are no other words for Tex’s story. It’s beautiful, dark and deep, just like the Mafia prince himself.

A Whole New Crowd by Tijan
A broken girl, a twist of fate, a strong heroine and a love story like no other. Tijan’s story-telling abilities always leave me breathless. This was gritty, full of emotion and romance. I loved it.

Wing Women by Bella Jewel
This might just be my favorite book of 2014. Here’s my favorite quote from the book. I think it says it all: “Why do people drink? I mean seriously, what's the catch? It makes us crazy, we do stupid things and then we wake up the next day with a headache, a sore stomach and quite possibly, an STD.” ― Bella Jewel, Wingwoman

Better When He’s Bad by Jay Crownover
Many of us write about the bad boy, but Jay Crownover really just takes bad boy to an entirely new level in this book. Bax is just so bad you want to love him. Truly. This is a raw and intense story. I soaked up every word.

Ugly Love by Colleen Hoover
Tate and Archer…my face was tear stained and my sleeve full of snots. Enough said.

Excerpt
Strong arms wrap tightly around my waist and tug me back to a warm, muscular chest. Asher lifts his hand and moves my hair to one side, over my shoulder, so he can have access to my neck. I tilt my head to the right, making it easy for his lips to gently brush the sensitive skin under my left ear before leaving a trail of soft kisses.
“Someday, when this is all over, I promise you’ll have the peace you’re craving. It will be just me and you, siren,” he vows quietly.
I sigh in contentment. “That’s all I want, Ash.”
“Then I’ll move Heaven and earth to make sure you get it."
I turn to face him and push up on my tiptoes. Leaning in, I give him a slow, molten kiss. I push everything I feel for him into the gesture. I want to fill every space of his soul, the way he does mine.
It’s like I’m trying to climb inside his heart and live there. I’m not sure how long we stay like this, in our own private, perfect moment, but I never want to leave.
Breathlessly, I pull away. My eyes find Asher’s. “What is it you want the most?”
Asher’s intense gaze holds mine, taking my breath away. “Redemption.”

Samara Cavanaugh has grown up in a world filled with magic users. She’s used to bizarre and peculiar. But when a stranger checks in at The Bella Luna, the bed and breakfast her family owns, the strange occurrences in Granite Falls escalate.
Many people are leery of Levi, their new guest. He claims to be in town doing research but Samara’s friends aren’t so sure that his claim is as innocuous as it appears to be. When two of her classmates disappear, her friends seem convinced Levi had a hand in it.
Those closest to her have been keeping secrets from her. Those secrets put everyone close to her in danger.
Suddenly, her unrequited crush on her best friend, Tristan becomes the least of her troubles.

I asked Amity, 'Do you read the same kinds of books that you write? What authors have influenced you?'

I have a fairly eclectic taste in books. I like a little bit of everything: Romance, mystery, suspense, and of course, I read a lot of young adult romance.
That said, my favorite genre is young adult. I read a good mix of both YA contemporary romance and paranormal romance.
Most of the books I’ve published to date have been YA contemporary romance. However, paranormal is by far my favorite. I love books that can pull you out of everyday life. I think paranormal romance does that in a way that no other genre can. There is just so much more an author can do with paranormal romance. They can really take the reader anywhere. The characters have fewer limitations put upon them.
My favorite authors are Kim Harrison and Richelle Mead. I’ve read everything they’ve written. I’ve actually read several of their books twice. That’s not something I do often because my TBR pile (like everyone else’s) grows by the day. I believe that of all of the books I’ve read, these two authors have influenced me the most. I aspire to someday be as wonderful at world building and storytelling as these two amazing ladies are.

  Shade

Clendon Kiernan has always preferred the shadows. A place where he was free from the hate and fear, from the stares and ridicule of others. One night Clen discovers the shocking truth of why. He is a Shade. A thing of darkness. A creature with the ability to shred souls. When a vile whisper tells him to destroy everything around him Clen does the only thing he can.   But he cannot run from himself. The darkness growing inside Clen will soon consume him if he does not learn to control it. In his quest to do so, Clen learns that there is an entire world that exists in the shadows of Ellis, a world that has been hidden from him – secret clans with extraordinary abilities, the ghosts of a hidden past, and a war that’s been brewing for millennia. Clen must uncover the true history of Ellis, see through the generations of lies and deceit, and suffer betrayal and heartbreak if he is to save all those who hate and fear him. But when he learns the truth, will he want to?   The darkness in him could save Ellis. Or it could be what destroys it.

Can you tell us a little about your latest book?
Shade is the story of Clendon Kiernan, a teenage boy who’s always been an outcast in his small home town of Ellis. One night he discovers why – he’s a Shade, someone with the terrifying ability to rip your soul from your body. His friends and family are who he thought they were. His quaint hometown is riddled with secrets that go back generations. Clen is quickly caught in the middle of an ancient feud and must decide which side he falls on. Will he use his abilities to save Ellis and the people who have feared and lied to him his entire life, or let it all burn?

What inspired you to write it?
I grew up and went to college in rural Upstate New York, the Adirondacks. I moved to Hartford, CT after graduating. It was a jarring transition. There were no trees. There were no mountains. The Springtime smelled like wet ass. I started writing Shade in a fit of homesickness. Ellis is largely based on my hometown. Many of the characters draw inspiration from my friends and family. Writing Shade made me feel at home. I did grow to love Hartford, but I moved back to Adirondacks a few years ago.

How did you come up with the idea for the cover?
My publisher hired an artist for the cover. I didn’t really have much say in its design. But, damn, that guy’s totally dreamy, amiright?

If it was made into a movie, who would you like to play the main characters?
I’m going to assume my casting director has access to a time machine and makes bold casting choices. Clen would be played by Dane DeHaan. He’s great at being dark and conflicted and has excellent crazy-eyes. Ollie would be Michael Chicklis, de-aged like they did to Jeff Bridges in the new Tron movie. Tracy Spiridakos would be Niko. Yori is Aaron Yoo. Tao Okamoto is Suzume. Wyn would be played by a young Paul Newman.

What is it about this genre that appeals to you so much?
I like the fantasy/scifi genres because the fantastical elements in those stories are just creative extensions of human experiences and allow us to explore how we would act and react in these wild circumstances. Alex is trapped in the city as a tornado charges toward him, destroying everything in its path! Oh no! What’s he gonna do? Versus…Alex is trapped in the city as an enormous, irradiated dinosaur creature stomps and smashes everything in its path! Holy crap! I feel the freedom to change tornadoes to dinosaurs. And I like writing Young Adult Fiction because I think young adults are more honest and less pretentious than regular sized adults. They’re closer to a state of wild, rampant imagination.

What made you want to become an author?
I write because I’m a writer. I was born that way. I wasn’t born writing, obviously, I learned that later. I love telling stories and always have. Being an author, I think, implies being paid. What better satisfaction than to be paid to do something you love?

How do you come up with character names?
I spent a lot of time researching the names. The Clan names reflect the international origins and abilities of the clans. Dubh Suil is Gaelic for “black eye”. Safish Azar comes from the Swahili word Safisha, meaning “purifying or cleansing” and the Persian word Azar, meaning “fire”. Ananta is a Sanskrit word that means “without end or infinite one”. It’s the same with many of the individual character names and family names. They all mean something. Clendon was my grandfather’s name.

Name one of your all-time favourite books?
Travels with Charley by John Steinbeck. The observations in that book are amazing. Of people, of America, of life.

Who, or what, inspires you?
The world. Life. So many things. Riding a city bus and just watching and listening to people. Stepping into a lake and realizing that people 500 years ago stepped into this exact same lake. Then realizing that, really, it’s not the same lake because it’s constantly moving and changing. Wondering what the world was like 500 years ago, what it will be like 500 years from now. Watching my son learn how to talk. Everything, everywhere, all the time. I think infinite inspiration can be found in a single day.

Where is your favourite place to write?
Home. I am a total and absolute homebody. I would never leave if I didn’t have to do so for important things like going to the movies.

What is your favourite movie that was based on a book?
Where the Wild Things Are. Fantastic rumpusing. Great soundtrack.

Name two of your favourite authors.
Neil Gaiman and John Steinbeck.

If you could have a dinner party with any authors from any time in history, who would you choose and why?

Bram Stoker and Stephanie Meyer so they could discuss vampires.
(this is the best answer I've ever had for this question lol!!)
Tell us a random fact about yourself.
I’m agile, like a mountain goat.

Who would play you in the movie about your life?
A movie about my life would require a lot of narration, which would be done by James Earl Jones. The actor that would play me would have to be great at being silent and stone-faced. It could really just be a statue of me with narration from James Earl Jones. The statue of me would be played by Michelangelo’s David.
LOL!!!

Tell us an interesting fact about where you live.
The mountain I live on, West Mountain, is named for a woman named Abigail West who died in a house fire. Certain accounts say she was burned for being a witch. According to my mother, Abigail haunts houses and commits such dastardly acts as turning on your sewing machine in the middle of the night.

What are your (writing) plans for the future?
I’m currently writing Beast, the sequel to Shade. I’m also developing, and soon launching, an ongoing webcomic called Constant. It’s a tale of grief and alternate dimensions and aliens with handlebar mustaches. It explores the diverging paths two parents take after losing their child. Rafael Desquitado, the amazing artist who worked on the Shade preview comic (available for free at codybstewart.com) is developing it with me. Updates for that are soon to come.

Tell us one thing that's on your bucket list.
Go to Greece.

Favourite myth / fairytale?
I’m a big fan of Greek Mythology. My favorite Greek myth is the story of Prometheus stealing fire from the gods and giving it to man. It’s an archetype for a lot of great stories. It’s such a powerful image - taking this power from the heavens, this fantastic, mythical thing and giving it away.

Who/What did you want to be when you were a kid?
Prometheus.
I LOVE this answer!!

Cody StewartAbout the Author:
Cody was born in Upstate New York. Eventually setting off to seek his fortune, he worked in a paper mill, a whipped cream factory, cleaned apartments, and administratively assisted several organizations before returning to the Adirondacks with a wife and child that he picked up along the way.   He approaches life as though it were a page – frequently rearranging paragraphs to make it more interesting if not wholly true, fudging with the margins to fit more in, and, sometimes, erasing entire sections altogether. When not altering reality, he is scouring comic book shops, lying on the ground, or floor (whichever he happens to be standing on when he feels the need to go horizontal), trying to convince his wife to make french toast (she makes amazing french toast), and searching for the darkest cup of coffee in existence.
