#AtoZChallenge: N is for National Trust

16.4.13

When we finally make the move back to the UK, one of the first things we plan on doing is to join the National Trust. Hubby and I LOVE to visit old British stately homes, castles, cathedrals, gardens... anywhere with historical and cultural influence, and the National Trust will allow us to do that rather more cheaply! As an author, I find these places truly inspiring. In fact, some of them even appear in my novels (see below to download some of them for free!).
The National Trust is actually a conservation charity that protects historic places and green spaces, and opens them up for everyone to enjoy. Cool huh?
Here are just a few of the places we've visited over time (I know not all of these places belong to the National trust though!)...
Chatsworth House, Derbyshire
Osborne House, Isle of Wight
Winchester Rook, Hampshire
Winchester Cathedral
Sandringham, Norfolk
Bradford on Avon, Wiltshire
Gloucester Cathedral, where some Harry Potter scenes were shot (hence my excitement!)
Arundel Castle, West Sussex
Arundel Cathedral, West Sussex
The city of Bath, Somerset
Salisbury Cathedral, Wiltshire
Stonehenge, Wiltshire
Wells Cathedral, Somerset
Tower Bridge, London
Don't forget to download your FREE copy of Daisy Madigan's Paradise, a Morgan Sisters novella. Raven, the first book in my other series (The Raven Saga) is also FREE!

  2. Thanks for stopping by. It's so wonderful that you have joined the organization to preserve these historical places. New is not always better. I love how old castles and buildings look...they hold so much mystery.

  3. I am hoping to get a grant to visit England in the summer of 2014 as part of my Master's thesis research on Jane Austen. How simply splendid it would be!

  4. I am so envious! I LOVE history...I would rather spend a day at a museum than an amusement park!

  5. I've been a member all my life! 17 years! I haven't been to a property for a while now, but I've probably been to most of theirs throughout my life. I couldn't pick a favourite! xx

  8. Suzanne - I hope you loved them as much as I did :D
Julia - thanks. I totally agree with you!
Brandy - I hope you do visit England. I know you'd love it... make sure to stop at Winchester, that's where Jane Austen is buried!
Elizabeth - I am so with you on that one. (I'm not good at amusement parks anyway. I'm the biggest coward!) x
Katie - I'm very envious of you!
Michael - Yes, I was sad. Despite the fact that she has a lot of haters, she did do a lot of good for Britain and for women. I think it's disgusting how some people are reacting to her death.
Jeff - I know they would inspire you and your fantasy world! :D
Rachael - OOh, I've never been to Italy. I'd love to though. Although, I have my sights of another visit to Canada next ;) Oh, and I'm following you too!

Thank you all for stopping by. It was lovely to read all your comments this morning! :D xx
