The phone call I dread...

Hubby on his bike
My husband had a motorbike accident on Saturday evening. It was the phone call I'm always dreading, so I'm counting my lucky stars that he was the one that made it - he was okay, just a bit bruised. The bike will be out of action for a few weeks though, but if that's all we have to worry about, I'm happy.
He was on his way home, coming down the mountain, when a driver pulled out of a one way street (the wrong way). If the driver had only put his foot down a bit, Michael would have missed him, but instead the driver stopped, leaving Michael nowhere to go but straight into the side of the car. He was thrown over the top, whacking himself against the tank before hitting the ground. Thank goodness he has always been so safety conscious in his leathers, helmet, decent boots, back protector and what not, otherwise things could have been very, very different.
The driver of the car, a Spanish man with his family, was deeply sorry. It was written all over his face, and as he left, he couldn't stop saying how sorry he was. We all make silly mistakes now and then, we're just lucky that this wasn't more serious.

  1. So glad to hear he's all right. Wow, I can imagine your heart stopped with that call!

My husband gets so mad at me because I am one of those panickers who hit the brakes instead of the gas. I mean sometimes brakes are good, but not all the time.

  2. Thank you, Elizabeth. I think it's only natural to hit the brakes... I admit I'd probably do the same :(

  3. I used to be a biker, but it was mutually agreed I should give it up. Not mutually agreed by me, you understand, but as I was in hospital with a collapsed lung I apparently didn't have a say in the matter. Glad he's ok and that he always wears the right gear. I always would, even in the height of summer. it irks me no end to see bikers in shorts and T-shirts.

  4. Yikes... that must have been absolutely horrendous. Both for you and your loved ones. I think had that happened to Michael, I would have probably wanted him to give it up to. Although I know he wouldn't! He's been biking since he was about 5 so it's practically in his blood.
It always irks us too when we see people biking in no gear... living in Portugal we often see them in flip flops too. Crazy.
    Thanks for stopping by :)
