I'm gonna go for it....

24.3.11

I feel like something is happening right now... like I'm about to commence a new era of my writing life. I almost feel like I've had an epiphany!
I've been toying with the idea of buying a Kindle... I know, I know, why it's taken me so long is just beyond me. It's something I should have done a long time ago. But it's not just that, after I started reading up all about the Kindle, then I started reading up on epublishing. Indie epublishing to be exact. And I feel like I'm seeing a light that has been switched off for a long time.
I've read about authors who had been rejected so many times that they've finally said 'enough is enough' and taken it upon themselves to get published... many using Amazon, Barnes & Noble, etc to do just that. Some have had extraordinary success (Amanda Hocking, for example) and others have been slowly but surely selling a few copies and making a little money.
I am realistic (although ambitious!) and I do understand that if I choose this path, it will probably be a long one. But surely, being a writer, the goal is to have one's work read by as many people as possible? To get out there in the first place? Sitting and waiting to be discovered by an agent / publisher isn't getting me anywhere. I'd rather a few people read my work than none at all.
And so I have made my decision... I am choosing this route.
I am incredibly lucky to have friends in the publishing business who will proofread my work and make sure it is spic n span, ready to go out into the big wide world. But while I wait for them to do that, I must decide what I want on the cover of Raven... so, for now, I bid you adieu while I go and work it out.... it's so exciting!!

  2. I waited forever, too, Suzy -- just got my Kindle two weeks ago. I published my book as a Kindle download last summer. Still working on getting decent sales -- it takes awhile. Still, I think you will be happy with your decision to go to indie epublishing. Good luck on your cover and best wishes for your ebooks!

  4. Thanks guys!
I shall keep you updated on how it goes. I know it'll be a hard, long, slog but at least it's a process entirely in my own hands.
The cover is proving difficult though... we need to wait for a misty day to go up the mountain and I need a teenage girl to 'be' my main character too. My husband has suggested I just wear a wig!! Sweet!

  6. That's a huge decision, and all the best to you! It's going to be hard work, but at least you know that your success/failure is more or less in your own hands (with a little bit of luck thrown in!).
