I love giveaways. Both entering them and doing them myself. In fact I currently have an ongoing giveaway over at Goodreads where you could win a paperback copy of The Temporal Stone (it finishes on 31st August). Enter right here.
I think giveaways are a great way to become a little more known in the book world. For instance, when you run a Goodreads giveaway, all entrants must add the book they want to win to their 'To Read' list. How awesome is that? And currently I have 842 people who have entered the competition to win The Temporal Stone!
I frequently take part in giveaways, many on facebook that are being organised by book bloggers and other authors. And when they do them, my name is always mentioned - spreading the word even further. Basically, its a win-win situation, don't you think?
Anyhow, this week the Indie Author Series is doing a massive author giveaway. Yippee!! So come on and enter to win some fabulous books!! Whatcha waitin' for?!!

If you're an author and you're not on Goodreads, then why are you sitting here reading this? You should be over there, like right NOW creating your author profile page. It's a crucial social networking site for authors and readers alike. Did you get that? I said READERS... yes, that's where a lot of readers will go to to get ideas about their next book. They can easily get recommendations from their peers and other followers with similar reading tastes as them.
When I first joined Goodreads, I wasn't entirely sure about it. But then, let's face it, I wasn't entirely sure about anything related to social networking. And then, when I was invited to do a giveaway I soon found that thousands of people were adding my books to their 'To Read' list. And then the reviews started flowing in too. It was a win/win situation for me and so I was hooked.
I've since linked my blog to my Goodreads profile so that people can see my blog posts right on Goodreads if they want to. I've also added my book trailers. You can add upcoming events and join groups. You can quite easily spend hours on Goodreads!
Find me right here - feel free to add me as a friend. The more, the merrier!
Don't forget to download your FREE copy of my book, Daisy Madigan's Paradise here and your FREE copy of Raven here.

#YAIndieCarnival: The Author Page
8.3.13
The Author Page, on whatever platform, is crucial for any budding writer. Whether they write short stories, non fiction or fiction, they must get their name out there and the best way to do that is to create a plethora of 'author pages' wherever they go.
Three places that are of particular importance are on Goodreads, Amazon and Facebook If you haven't created an author profile on Goodreads yet, what are you waiting for? Its pretty easy to do. The same with Amazon. Readers often want to know whose books they're reading and how easy is it for them to just click on the name whilst browsing books? Go to www.authorcentral.amazon.com to create your profile on Amazon and link to your books. I promise it doesn't take long. Facebook is an author page I use a lot. I automatically link my blog posts to it, and shout out on there whenever I have any exciting news. Currently, I have over 2,000 likes! How awesome is that?! Its a place where you can put all your book covers, trailers, photos of events...basically anything related to your books. Just remember though, that your FB author page is a professional place for your readers to get to know you. Don't use your page to chat to your friends about stuff that might come back to bite you in the ass! Save that for your personal profile!
The other more obvious 'author pages' are on your own website and/or blog. Get your bio up there, create a a bit of interest (or mystery if you're a mystery writer) and put lots of photos up. People often want to see what you really look like, so put a few every day pics in there as well. Explain how you got into writing, what inspires you and anything else you think readers might be keen to discover from their favourite author.
Are you on about.me yet? Its an easy place you can put all of your links to all your social networking profiles. Useful, but not crucial.

YA Indie Carnival: Listopia Demystified
1.6.12
Hmm... listopia. What is it for a start? Well, I'm not entirely sure myself lol! I'm guessing it's a list of your favourite books? Clearly this week's subject matter has me in a tizz and I feel mighty silly not really knowing anything about it. I googled it and was confronted by a writer's website, lists on goodreads that members vote on and not much more. So I'm assuming we're referring to Goodreads lists.
Ok then. Well, hmm. I do recall voting for a few of my favourite authors last year... I think they were favourite urban fantasy and favourite covers. But since then I've spent very little time of Goodreads, but then I've spent little time online up until recently. I was so busy writing and editing my most recent book, The Lost Soul, and then working as Script Supervisor that I just didn't have the time. But now that I'm back glued to my computer writing my next book (a chick lit novel!), I must investigate this phenomenon further.... listopia.... hmm....
For real listopia demystified, check out my awesome fellow carnis...
