Thursday Threesome: Top three 80s movies

20.12.12

I love 80s movies! I was born in 1975, so I was a child of the 80s... I also love the music that came out of that era. But the movies, sigh, there were so many awesome teen movies made in that decade. Granted, teens today will probably not 'get' them like I did (a clear sign of age!). Anyway, here are three of my favourites that came out of the 1980s.

A few others that are just too amazing not to mention:
The Goonies
Footloose
Wargames
Mannequin
Adventures in babysitting
Don't Tell Mum the Babysitter's Dead
Class
Honey, I Shrunk the Kids
Heathers
Ferris Bueller's Day Off
The Breakfast Club
Sixteen Candles

Where are they now: Corey Haim

31.10.12

When I was a kid, I was totally in love with the actor Corey Haim. He was so cute and adorable and even more so with his braces. Imagine my sadness when he passed away. I was heartbroken... even though I'd not really seen much of him since his childhood days, when he featured in lots of super cute movies. My favourite, of course, was The Lost Boys, one of the best vampire movies ever made. It also had the smoking hot Jason Patric who played his older brother, and probably the sexiest looking vampire in town, Kiefer Sutherland.
Another of his movies which I adored was called Lucas, and was about a boy who loves a girl who loves someone else. It also featured Charlie Sheen and Winona Ryder. Every time I hear a locust, or see them on TV, I'm reminded of Corey. If you've seen the movie, you'll know what I mean!
Before Corey died, it was reported in the press that he had become a drug addict at 15, something that seems to happen a lot to child stars, which is heart breaking. Apparently, he entered rehab 15 times throughout his short life.
In 2007, he starred alongside his childhood buddy, Corey Feldman, in a reality show aptly named The Two Coreys. However, Corey Haim relapsed and his friendship with Feldman deteriorated. But they did reconcile before Haim died of pneumonia in 2010, aged just 38 years old.

YA Indie Carnival: Name That Tune

24.2.12

Music. Does it inspire you to write? It certainly does me. I'm a sucker for a good dark and eerie tune, especially if I'm writing something a bit on the creepy side. When I was writing Raven I had a few firm favourites, mostly from movie soundtracks like The Lost Boys (Cry Little Sister) and Twilight (Possibility). There's also a beautiful song that is actually mentioned in the book. Cancao do Mar (yes, it's Portuguese) is a haunting fado song and is Rose's favourite kind of music. When Lilly first happens upon her aunt, this is what she's listening to outside her cottage. Have a listen... it really is gorgeous:

I've recently discovered a new musician and I've totally fallen in love with her music. Its just so me, you know? Lana Del Rey's music is dark and haunting and I just can't get enough of it. My husband, on the other hand, thinks she sounds like she's drunk!
Here, have a listen to one of her songs.... I know I'll be listening to this when I write my next book!
